Sad news, my good-as-new Apple Mac Book Pro has just died. Barely a couple of months out of warranty, and with a history of power problems from day one, it finally stopped working after turning itself into a grill which would have fried some eggs and bacon beautifully. I’ve been told that the logic board (motherboard) is the problem and that the repair bill will be at least £900. Apple have been incredible about it. Incredibly bad. Apart from being on the whole staggering rude on the phone they just told me it was my fault for not buying Apple Care. It’s incredible how little they care about a customer. I presume this is a rare fault and as such an apology and some sort of sympathy / attempt at resolution would be normal in CRM but not for Apple. They failed to mention to me the Consumer Credit Act 1974, nor the Sales of Good Act 1979. They just tried to sell me their version of insurance instead. What an appalling company.
A friend then reminded me of the power of the internet and suggested I wrote about the problems on my bog, so here goes. Given Apple aren’t interested, I’m pursuing other resolutions, but in case anyone out there has a similar issue, my advice is hold firm. Apple are arrogant and not interested once they have your money. I’d like to hear if anyone has had a similar problem to me. Mines is /was a new unibody Macbook Pro 15″, 4Gb ram, 250Gb hard drive etc. From new it never lasted more than around one hour on battery and that was just typing letters in Office or emailing. If you opened Aperture or iPhoto, then you can hope to get 20 mins or less from the battery. Apple did look into this for me, and told me it was normal!!
